GENERAL INFORMATION

Objective

The EPALS provider course is intended to provide training for multidisciplinary healthcare professionals in the early recognition of the child in respiratory or circulatory failure and the development of the knowledge and core skills required to intervene to prevent further deterioration towards respiratory or cardiorespiratory arrest.

The course comprises lectures, workshops, practical skill and teaching simulations, mentor/mentee meetings and assessments.

Please note that the EPALS Provider course is presented entirely in English.

Who the course is suitable for

This course is designed for healthcare professionals who would be expected to apply the skills taught as part of their clinical duties, or to teach them on a regular basis. Appropriate participants include doctors, nurses and paramedics working in direct contact with children. All applicants should hold a current clinical appointment and professional healthcare qualification.

Medical students in their final year of training can be accepted as candidates provided they do not exceed 10% of the total number of candidates.

Pre-course preparation

The manual is sent to the candidates one month before the course date and the candidate is strongly advised to study it thoroughly before attending. A pre-course multiple-choice questionnaire (MCQ) provides a baseline measure upon which new learning can be evaluated. Candidates are advised to complete this without reference to the manual, before attending the course.

Competence in cardiopulmonary resuscitation is an essential prerequisite to the course.

Instructors

ERC certified Belgian, Croatian, Slovenian, Greek and Czech EPALS instructors

Course language

English (at least basic knowledge of reading and communication skills is necessary)
